Sherri was referred to Goodwill Industries Marietta Training Center in March 2020, for assistance in finding and maintaining employment. Upon Sherri’s initial intake she had a long list of needs. She was serving time for a felony drug charge at the Oriana House Rehabilitation Center. She was facing homelessness upon her release and had no personal possessions, no driver’s license, no support system, and an overwhelming amount of debt accrued in court costs, fines, and fees.
With the help of Goodwill Training Center, Sherri secured a full-time position as a desk clerk at the Microtel Inn and was quickly promoted to dual responsibilities as desk clerk and assistant manager of housekeeping. Sherri also secured a part-time job at Dairy Queen. With assistance and support from Goodwill Training Center, Sherri was able to work, secure clothing, and earn enough money to pay off her fines, get her driver’s license, secure housing and move in, obtain furnishings, have utilities put in her name and get a car.
Sherri maintains employment full-time at the Microtel where she successfully carries out her duties, trains new employees, and manages other staff. She continues to work part-time at Dairy Queen, is continuing her education to become licensed in cosmetology, and plans to own her own business one day. She has made lasting friendships, established a support system, and maintains her sobriety as a self-sufficient reintegrated member of the community.
